K205 - Introduction to Exceptional Children

Correspondence
An overview of the characteristics and the identification of exceptional children. The course presents the issues in serving exceptional children as they participate in the educational, recreational, and social aspects of their lives. Because of the need for field experience and faculty supervision, this distance education course cannot be used to meet certification, degree, or graduation requirements of the IU School of Education systemwide. However, it may be used for certification purposes in many states. Students are required to view one movie from a selected list; the movies are not supplied. Students are also required to do an on-site visit (local restaurant, recreational facility, or retail business) to assess the accessibility for individuals with disabilities.

Students select their own topics from a range of prepared opportunities. Includes 100 lessons; students may choose strands of lessons they want to complete, and are required to submit four lessons for each credit hour for which they are enrolled in the course. Does not count toward a degree in the School of Education. National award winner.
