The IU School of Continuing Studies offers online access to undergraduate courses in a variety of formats to best address student needs.
The advantages and parameters for these formats are given below.
With self-study courses, you study on your own, but get plenty of individualized instructor feedback. The School of Continuing studies offers more than 120 self-study online courses through its award-winning Independent Study Program.
- year-round registration
- up to one calendar year to complete all assignments and exams, with two four-month extensions possible
- study guide on Web
- assignment submission via Web
- exams administered face to face by approved exam supervisors
- not eligible for federal financial assistance
Important: Although you have up to one calendar year to complete an Independent Study Program course, you are strongly encouraged to work at a steady and consistent pace so that you may complete your course(s) in less time. Many Independent Study Program courses may be completed in as few as four months. To improve exam turnaround time, the School of Continuing Studies is now using priority mail to send exams to and from exam sites. In addition, you may request to have your exams emailed to your exam supervisor in pdf format.
