First, look over our Independent Study Program procedures and policies to familiarize yourself with important information about the Independent Study Program.
Next, browse through our undergraduate courses or high school courses and select the course or courses for which you would like to register. Be sure to write down the subject area, course number, number of credits, and course cost for each course that interests you.
To Register Online
In order to register online using the Dragon student information system, you need a username and password. You should already have a username and password if you’ve taken a course with us in the past. Simply log in to Dragon, click on Register for Courses, and follow the step-by-step instructions.
If you are signing up for your first course, begin by calling 800-334-1011 (toll free) or 812-855-2292 (local or international). A customer service representative will take your registration information and payment. Once your payment is successfully processed, you will receive a username and password by email. You can then use your username and password to register for additional online courses.
To Register by Mail or Fax
Download and print the undergraduate or high school registration form. Once you print the form, fill it out. Be sure to indicate if you are registering for the correspondence version of the course or the online version of the course. Send the completed form by mail or fax (if you register by phone or in person, you do not have to fill out and send in a form).

To Register by Phone
If you are paying by American Express, Mastercard, Visa, or Discover Card or by debit card, you can register by phone. Call 800-334-1011.
To Register in Person
Visit our Office of Learner Services in Owen Hall 005 on the IU Bloomington campus. The office is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (eastern time), Monday through Friday.
Financial aid benefits (e.g., scholarships, tuition reimbursement, V.A. benefits) must be presented at the time of enrollment.
You must pay your fees in full when you enroll. Make your check or money order payable to Indiana University for the total course fee. You may also charge fees to your debit card or to your American Express, Discover Card, Mastercard, or Visa account.
By sending a check for payment, you are authorizing Indiana University to use information from your check to make a one-time electronic debit from your account at the financial institution indicated on your check. This electronic debit will be for the amount of the of the check and will post to your bank account within one day of receipt by us. The cancelled check will not be returned with your checking account statement.
If we cannot post the transaction electronically, you authorize us to present an image copy of your check for payment. You agree that if a third party submits a check on your behalf, that individual is your agent and was provided with these disclosures. If you prefer not to process your check as an electronic transaction, please send a note to that effect with your check, and we will process your payment as a paper transaction.
