Minimum Diploma Requirements
To earn an Indiana University High School diploma, you must successfully complete at least 40 credits distributed among various subject areas. At least 5 of the 40 credits must be earned through Indiana University High School.

The following shows how the minimum 40 credits should be distributed. Your academic advisor will help you plan a course of study that meets the 40-credit minimum diploma requirements while addressing your individual needs and interests.

  1. Language Arts
    8 credits in literature, composition, and speech, including the following:

    1. English 9: First and Second Semesters (English 11E and 12E)
    2. English 10: First and Second Semesters (English 21E and 22E)

  2. Mathematics
    4 credits

  3. Science
    2 credits from life science (biology); 2 credits from physical science

  4. Social Studies
    6 credits, including the following:

    1. United States History: First and Second Semesters (Social Studies 31A and 32A)
    2. Economics (Social Studies 41E)
    3. United States Government: First Semester (Social Studies 41G)

  5. Health Education
    1 credit — Health Education: Basic Course (Health Education 11B)

  6. Electives
    17 credits (We strongly recommend that at least 8 of the 17 elective credits be related to your career interest.)

Suggested College Prep Program
The following program, which meets the 40-credit minimum diploma requirements, is suggested if you plan to attend college.

Although the suggested college prep program satisfies the minimum academic standards recommended for admission to Indiana University, as well as many other universities and colleges, completing the program does not guarantee admission to Indiana University or other universities and colleges.

If you plan to attend college, consult with your IUHS academic advisor or with an advisor at the university or college you plan to attend for information about specific college admission requirements (for example, required high school courses, grades, SAT score, and extracurricular activities).

  1. Language Arts
