03A - Introduction to Two-Dimensional Art

Correspondence
An introductory course in which students learn basic techniques of drawing (in both pencil and pen-and-ink) and painting. Course assumes no previous art training and is suitable for students who want to explore or develop their artistic abilities.

23A - Drawing and Storytelling (Drawing)

Correspondence
Students study storytelling art through history; practice techniques of drawing, including caricature, perspective and distortion, shading, embellishment, and calligraphy; and apply these techniques to the development of their own stories in words and pictures. National award winner. Prerequisite: Art 03A or some background in art fundamentals.

31H - Art History and Appreciation (Art History)

Online / Correspondence
Introduces art history and culture; helps students learn to appreciate the works of great artists of the past and present. Provides two kinds of experience with art: critical experience, which helps students gain information from the works of art; and historical experience, which helps students understand the works' purposes and meanings. NOTE: Online course requires Microsoft Word.
