The Indiana University School of Continuing Studies (SCS) is joining schools across the country in celebrating National School Counseling Week, February 5 –9, 2007. This year's theme is "School Counselors: Helping Students Reach New Heights."
Continuing Studies works with counselors from all 50 states in providing distance education courses to high school students. These students take SCS courses to build flexibility into their schedules, stay on track for graduation, earn a diploma, get a head start on college, or explore courses that interest them. The school is honoring these counselors with a letter of sincere appreciation.
"Counselors play a critical role in helping students to define and reach their educational goals, and to meet the challenges facing them," stated SCS dean Daniel Callison. "We want to thank counselors for their dedication and concern and for the fundamental role they play in the lives of our nation's youth."
The School of Continuing Studies is especially celebrating the counselors in its own Indiana University High School diploma program: Susan Colston, Ida Medlyn, Fran Shields, and George Smith. “Over the past eight years, these counselors have advised hundreds of students, many of whom are now attending prestigious colleges and universities,” said IUHS director Bruce Colston. “We want to remind IUHS students that their counselors can put them on the path to academic success.”
Indiana University High School offers more than 100 high school distance education courses, nearly half of them online; more than 60 dual-credit courses; and an accredited high school diploma. Learn more by contacting Indiana University High School at 800.334.1011 or scs@indiana.edu.
