Indiana University High School (IUHS) senior Kathryn Morgan received impressive reviews in the New York Times for her performance as Juliet in the New York City Ballet’s production of Romeo and Juliet. Commenting on her being a recent addition to the corps de ballet, the NYT reviewer, Alastair Macaulay, was struck by what he described as her demonstrating “an already remarkably eloquent blend of bloom, spontaneity and rapture.”
Morgan began dancing as a toddler, and studied with the Mobile (Alabama) Ballet before entering the School of American Ballet, the teaching arm of the New York City Ballet, in 2002. She became an apprentice with the New York City Ballet in June 2006 — a journey that was chronicled by the NYT between June and November — and joined the corps de ballet in February 2007.
Morgan’s affiliation with IUHS began when she was in the ninth grade. She needed to find a way to focus on her developing career in ballet, while still earning her diploma. IUHS provided the right blend of flexibility and quality programming to meet Morgan’s educational needs while still allowing her to follow her dreams — dreams that, clearly, are coming true.
