The School of Continuing Studies (SCS) has a long history of serving students in foreign countries. Today, it is continuing this service by actively pursuing agreements with organizations dedicated to helping international students who want to complete a U.S. degree at a distance. In 2003–04, the school concluded an agreement with the Academy of Continuing Education (ACE) in Hong Kong.
This spring, more than 20 Hong Kong students became the first graduating class under that agreement. On April 3, 2005, they participated in a commencement recognition ceremony, graduating with the Indiana University Associate of Arts in General Studies. Additional students will graduate in August.
“We in Continuing Studies are proud to serve students internationally,” said SCS interim dean Judy Wertheim, “and we are pleased that our agreement with the Academy for Continuing Education is enabling students in Hong Kong to attain an Indiana University degree.”
Indiana University representatives at the commencement recognition ceremony were Donna Bialik (dean of students, IPFW, and an IU Independent Study Program instructor), Chris Viers (associate dean, International Programs), Sheryl Lentz (SCS), and Kristie Richardson (SCS).
