The Indiana University School of Continuing Studies (SCS) has announced the first two recipients of the Helene Knabe Adult Education Scholarship. Margaret Welage, a second-year student living in Indianapolis, Indiana, and Leslie Ann Staggers, a third-year student living in New Albany, Indiana, each received $250 to apply toward their education in the SCS Master of Science in Adult Education program.
The Knabe Scholarship was established in 2007 by Nicole and Michael Kobrowski to honor the accomplishments of Dr. Helene Knabe. Knabe was one of the first two women to graduate from the Medical College of Indiana, which became the Indiana University School of Medicine. She later became the second female to teach at the IU School of Medicine. The award is given to students with a record of academic excellence as demonstrated by a minimum GPA of 3.5, with preference given to persons with a demonstrated financial need.
The Indiana University School of Continuing Studies offers a variety of distance education opportunities to students of all ages. These include high school courses and a diploma available online or by correspondence, undergraduate courses and degrees available online or on campus, and the online Master of Science in Adult Education.
